Bunnyproofing
Rabbits LOVE to chew. It is a natural behavior for them. Most of the time,
they chew because they are bored. Other times, they chew because certain things, like
electrical cords, get in their way. Rabbit-proofing your home doesn't just protect your
belongings, it keeps your bunny safe.
- All electrical cords should be concealed in vinyl tubing or tied up with twist ties.
- Some house plants can be inviting, but toxic to your bun, so keep all plants out of reach.
- Many bunnies enjoy eating a good book, so make sure the ones you care about are nowhere near
a curious rabbit. You can give bunny some books of her own to play with; old telephone books
are a particular favorite because rabbits can dig in the thin pages as well as ripping and shredding
them. The dyes are probably not good for bunny to ingest, so take the book away if it looks like
it is actually being eaten!
- Give your rabbit lots of items that are safe to chew. Untreated wicker baskets, clean paper towel rolls, and
plain cardboard boxes
are favorites of every bunny, and inexpensive, besides. So are hard plastic slinkies (not metal), and hard plastic
baby keys. Bunny Lu provides bunny-safe toys to all of our fosters and encourages all bunny
owners to do the same.
